Apparently Mom has decided that once is not enough and is growing a new baby in her tummy. So far this means a bunch of lectures from both Mom and Dad about how "when the baby comes, Mama won't be able to do as many things for you, and you need to help us take care of it" and stuff.

Whatever.

My take on it is this:

What will this new baby do for me? How long because I can use him or her as furniture? Can I shoot nerf darts at it? Will it understand the importance of explosions?

We wonder.

I, too, was once in your position. For 4 years, I was the ONLY small human in the family. Then, one day, my mom informed me I would have a brother or sister in a few months. I had no idea what this meant, though I got some Fisher Price Little People out of the deal, and some other stuff.
My sister was noisy and boring for a while, but fascinating as well. Mostly, the new baby will provide you with amusement, as well as being a captive audience for puppet shows and one-man plays. Something mom and dad are not always good at...
In short, New Baby is a GOOD THING.

That's very exciting news, Allistair. I know another little boy and when his new baby brother arrived, he came out of mummy's tummy holding a packet of smarties! I hope your new brother or sister will bring you a present!

I suggest, as my older niece did just before her sister was born, making something very clear. Namely, she wrote a note saying "I will love and care for my baby sister, but I will not change any poopy diapers". Get that established in writing as soon as you can.
